Abstract:

The conference took place on April 3 and 4, 1982, at Columbia University. The two days were divided into four sessions: Educational and Cultural Networks; Artists-in-Residence; Working with Different Populations; and Those Who Can....Also Teach. (Summaries of each session can be found later in the Proceedings.). In each session there was a presentation by a panel with time for questions from the audience. In several sessions questions were also addressed in small groups where more specific information was given. The sessions were designed for artists from all artistic disciplines and at all stages in their professional development. The sessions examined how artists can work for and in educational settings such as schools, museums, arts organizations, libraries, and community centers.

Artists and leaders from the educational and cultural community discussed which educational and cultural organizations utilize artists, what the job options are, and which skills and credentials are required. Each participant received a resource packet which included names and addresses of organizations involved in arts-in-education programs and a selective bibliography on the subject. The resources material also included Pamphlet #5: Resourceful Resources...Organizations and Publications compiled by the Alliance of New York State Arts Council. (p. 5)
