Symposium - Nonprofit Arts Institutions

Author: Connecticut Law Review

Publication Year: 1977

Media Type: Report

Summary:

This is a special issue of Connecticut Law Review, v. 10, n. 3, Spring 1978. The last decade has seen an explosion of interest in art law--the legal problems associated with the visual arts. But this interest has focused on ... art works, and the ... artists who create them. . . . Yet many legal problems in the visual arts concern ... the institutions of the arts: Museums, galleries, art union, cooperative associations, archives, and community art centers. These institutions are primarily nonprofit. . . . they have received little study, from legal scholars or otherwise. The purpose of this symposium is to focus attention on the nonprofit institutions of the visual arts. The two great problems of the nonprofit sector are responsibility and subsidy. (Introduction, p. 545).
