Abstract:
Survey conducted and prepared by Lilla M. Pearce, educational analyst on the staff of the Education and Public Welfare Division of the Congressional Research Service of the Library of Congress; prepared for the U.S. Senate, Committee on Labor and Public Welfare, Special Subcommittee on Arts and Humanities. Responses to a survey with information on arts and cultural funding and support by government in four countries--Austria, Israel, Great Britain and West Germany; in 49 agencies of the U.S. Government; and by 47 U.S. state arts councils. Most of the data is from the late 1960's and includes budgets, types of programs and program descriptions. The survey also asked the state arts councils several evaluative questions about levels of funding, and the results are tabulated in the introduction.
