Abstract:
As the title suggests, this volume is primarily concerned with the ways in which culture is produced. All the chapters in this volume originally appeared in the journal American Behavioral Scientist, v. 19, n. 6, July/August 1976. The eight chapters examine a range of issues including government patronage, networks and circles in production of culture, production organizations, reward systems, and social types in art worlds. Together, they look at some of the processes through which individuals, organizations, and societies organize in the manufacture of culture and cultural products. Chapters are analyzed.
