Abstract:

Review by Jillian Poole of the book Partners: A Practical Guide to Corporate Support of the Arts [New York, NY: Cultural Assistance Center, 1982, 112 p.].

The real mystery about this most excellent little book is why it wasn't written long ago. Its stated purpose is to serve as a guide to the numerous ways that corporations and businesses can help cultural organizations and individual artists. Indeed, in the space of a little over 100 pages it does so most admirably. The book stresses the fact that support can be given while at the same time the company's self interest can be served. Included are examples of how various businesses have accomplished this dual feat in both the standard and not so standard fashion. It is good reading for potential donors and arts managers may well find in it some ingenious fund raising ideas.
