Abstract:

In this review of their 2014/15 programming, Pacific Northwest Ballet (PNB) shares objectives, strategies, outcomes and future goals for Discover Dance, a public school educational program that reaches over 800 1st-8th grade students in and around Seattle. This six week program unites movement concepts and choreographic skills with core subjects, allowing students to interact with classroom material in new ways. Classroom teachers tell us that learning core subjects through physicality has helped their studends to take risks, to better communicate, to respect others' perspectives and to focus for longer periods of time. Discover Dance aims principally to foster creative thinking, collaboration and perseverance in classrooms.
