Abstract:

Every business, no matter how small its size, can support the arts of its community in some manner. Because many companies are as yet uncertain how to begin in this field, this booklet has been produced to indicate some of the ways.

During the past few years a number of companies have indicated interest in assisting the arts in a meaningful way. Yet they have hesitated to become involved because of a fear that they could not do enough. They have pointed to large corporate and foundation grants to national organizations and indicated they could not hope to match such munificence.

But not every arts organization needs a great deal of money. Many inexpensive ideas and projects can significantly assist the arts in a community. Following are some suggestions. Each is based on actual examples that have been successful. Because in many cases a number of different companies have undertaken the same type of project, names of donors and recipients have been omitted.

The projects are arranged roughly in the order of increasing degrees of corporate involvement. No attempt has been made to estimate costs. These will vary from city to city and depend on complexity of project as well.

Finally, the lists are suggestive rather than definitive. There are many variations which might be introduced as more appropriate to the specific community or organization. (p. 1)
