Abstract:

This directory was undertaken because, to make Native American groups and cultural funding sources more aware of each other, to make cultural funding a higher priority, groups looking for support need to present their ideas in the clearest and most compelling way possible.

Native American Arts and Culture includes the funding sources that are most interested in Native American cultural programs. These sources are listed in the section of this book entitled Arts and Cultural Sources. A descriptive of each foundation is given along with basic proposal requirements for fund seekers. Another section entitled General Sources cites the names and addresses of about 125 philanthropists who have funded a variety of Native American projects, including the arts.

The directory will, however, serve as a guide for contacting important funding and information sources. The resources listed narrow down the world of philanthropists to those who are most likely to generate funds for Native American programs. These donors are found among private foundations, corporations, federal agencies, state arts agencies and religious groups.

The directory also includes important national Native American groups and arts and tribal information sources, as well as a bibliography and a listing of fund-raising workshops. (p.1-2)
