Motivation and Creativity; Documentary Report of the Ann Arbor Symposium on the Applications of Psychology to the Teaching and Learning of Music, Session 3

Author: Music Educators National Conference

Publication Year: 1982

Media Type: Report

Summary:

Abstract:

The purpose of Session III was to summarize current knowledge and theory in motivation and creativity and to apply the results to the teaching and learning of music at all levels. The emphasis was on practical implications for the music teacher in day-to-day instruction. The papers from Session III are contained in the present publication, but despite the excellence of these contributions by distinguished psychologists, the ultimate responsibility for identifying those ideas that are relevant to music teaching and translating them into practice lies with music educators. The process of interpretation and implementation was begun in Ann Arbor but must be continued by each of us. The stage is set. MENC, the University of Michigan, and the Theodore Presser Foundation hope that the result of the Ann Arbor Symposium will be further improvement in the quality of music instruction in the nation's schools and colleges.
