Abstract:

Those who fund arts and education programs gathered in January 2000 to review the connection between learning in the arts and preparing for a new knowledge-based (less manual labor) economy, to review current research about the cognitive and behavioral assets arts education develops, and to distill the ways of thinking that the arts teach. Learning and the Arts: Crossing Boundaries is the written report of the brief presentations made during that gathering. It reflects some of the most useful thinking about arts education circulating today.

[These proceedings are from an invitational meeting held January 12-14, 2000 in Los Angeles, California. The meeting was organized by Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, J.
