Summary:

The implementation of an infusion of the arts in general education is imperative if we are to respond to the goals statement enunciated by the Board of Regents for elementary, secondary and continuing education. Implementation requires an interdisciplinary partnership and the full cooperation of the State Education Department, the local school districts, the professional associations, the institutions of higher learning and arts organizations.

Abstract:

The implementation of an infusion of the arts in general education is imperative if we are to respond to the goals statement enunciated by the Board of Regents for elementary, secondary and continuing education. Implementation requires an interdisciplinary partnership and the full cooperation of the State Education Department, the local school districts, the professional associations, the institutions of higher learning and arts organizations.

The creation of an advisory comittee to carefully monitor progress toward the implementation of these recommendations is considered necessary to insure the continuity of leadership essential for their realization. The implementation of these recommendations also requires the various constituencies to develop individual plans appropriate to their specific areas of involvement.

This committee report provides a plan to enable the constituencies to coordinate their efforts for a quality education program which will be complete only if the arts are a part of the entire curriculum and the daily teaching/learning process. In turn, the educational program in our State will be broadened, integrated, and enriched for the benefit of our students by this cooperative effort. (p. 20)
