Summary:

The purpose of the evaluation activities during the first year of the High School of the Arts program was to uncover information that would help the program develop a definitive structure; isolate factors contributing to the successes and failures in implementing the program; and to determine the effects of the program on the students enrolled. Several strategies were employed to gather this information. Clarification of program goals and objectives, structured interviews of the High School of the Arts staff, and surveys of the students were the major data collection techniques.
