Abstract:
This book covers all types of giving to all sectors. The following information is from the chapter on giving to arts, culture and humanities. A total of $1.94 billion, or 5.2 percent over 1974's $1.28 billion, was contributed to the arts and humanities in 1975, according to an estimate by the American Association of Fund-Raising Counsel. Most of the money came from individuals who took an enlarged interest in cultural activities at a time when the economy was brushing the bottom. A study conducted for the National Committee for Cultural Resources showed private giving to 343 arts organizations rose by 21 percent in the past four years and reached $38.9 million in the 1974-1975 season. Endowment income in the same period reached $13.3 million, from $10.5 million. During the same years the 343 arts organizations studied had increases in total expenditures from $131.1 million to $177.2 million or 35 percent. (p. 42)
