The series, Selected Articles on Dance, is primarily a service publication that offers in volume form the thoughts on dance of an era. These volumes offer valuable reading for students, teachers, and performers. The views in this test do not represent those of the National Dance Association or the editor, but are solely the views of each author. We hope the readers, whether they agree or disagree with the opinions expressed in this book, will gain a clearer understanding of the nature, role and scope of dance.

The philosophical, historical, socio-cultural and educational perspectives offered in Chapters One through Four should sharpen and strengthen one's theoretical considerations on dance. Argumentation in support of dance as an academic discipine and as basic education is interwoven throughout these early chapters. Chapters Five through Ten focus primarily on considerations that should improve teaching techniques and strategies used in several dance forms. These articles are indeed encores for dance. (p. 7)
