Abstract:

This report is Phase I of a study on cultural planning in the Baltimore area. The aims of the study are: (1) to identify the unique goals and objectives of the cultural resources in the Baltimore region together with the varieties of their institutional structures; (2) to identify the scope and influence of their activities including their impact on the economy of the Baltimore region; and (3) to establish their long range problems of financial support.

The study includes a brief estimate of the total economic impact of 14 arts institutions in fiscal 1973 based on employment of 1,492 persons with salaries of $7,454,906, and other expenditures of $11,701,079. A breakdown of these figures is given for each of the 14 institutions.
