Abstract:

This report summarizes a comprehensive survey of thirty-six arts organizations in Indianapolis. Findings include: The arts make a $34 million impact on the economy of Indianapolis. The arts employ more than 1,000 persons. The 1976 budget of the 36 arts organizations was almost $10 million. Paid attendance for the arts tops professional sports. Cultural activity is a high-growth industry. One and one-third million admissions in 1976 were free admissions, meaning generally, available and free to the general public. The single largest identifiable group using the cultural facilities at no charge was school children. More than 12,000 volunteers boost the arts.
