The arts employ more than 1,000 persons. The 1976 budget of the 36 arts organizations was almost $10 million. Paid attendance for the arts tops professional sports. Cultural activity is a high-growth industry. One and one-third million admissions in 1976 were free admissions, meaning generally, available and free to the general public.
