This directory contains several sections. Immediately following this introduction, there is a short history of registry development and some general observations. They are organized alphabetically by state and each listing provides a description of the nature and size of the collection and also includes a summary of restrictions, availability, hours and other pertinent information. And at the back of the directory there is an alphabetical index to all listings. It is evident that the success of registries hinges upon the mutual satisfaction of the artist and the viewer. Artists are attracted by the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work outside overtaxed museum and gallery channels. Users, who may be studying, exhibiting or purchasing art, like the convenience of viewing works by many artists at one time. For users, this convenience is also related to their ability to select efficiently those artists who are likely to suit their purposes.
