Summary:

Abstract:

In 1997, the U.S. copyright industries accounted for $348.4 billion. This finding offers a compelling incentive for economic development policymakers to take a closer look at intellectual property engines.

This article evolved from the desire for a set of practices that help estimate or compare a communitys intellectual regeneration as it relates to arts, design and entertainment. The article focuses on a special tool, the Dynamic Resource Development (DRD), a technique adapted from operations research and financial engineering applications for business and regional development practitioners. It offers a powerful tool for understanding the role of the creative industries in local and regional communities.
