Abstract:

Art educators have little time to do more than tackle what appears to be the next set of immediate crises. Such tremendous demands on time are not unique to any particular level of education, for they routinely occur within K-12 and higher education contexts. A deep human desire surfaces to freeze frame experience, to slow down action long enough to construct a picture of what takes place in order to understand its meaning. The buzz of activity that constitutes the world of arts education needs to be analyzed in a variety of ways to provide the resonance and depth that illuminate the whole. Such fullness requires both qualitative and quantitative research analysis. In this age of such highly charged action, arts educators in K-12 and higher education who take the time to engage in joint efforts toward analyzing descriptive data will find that such research efforts can enrich their understanding of the field. (p. 30)
