Abstract:
This article traces the evolution of copyright and authors rights from sixth-century England into the digital future, and considers the impacts of the English, American, and French Revolutions. The author tries to make this complex subject more accessible and, in fact, covers a great deal of ground. He closes the essay with thoughts on the future, based on the adoption of the Berne Copyright Convention (1989).
