Abstract:
The sponsors of the Ann Arbor Symposium on the Applications of Psychology to the Teaching and Learning of Music asked Judith Murphy to write an interpretive report of the event based on her perception of the two sessions, a close study of the presentations and discussion, and an analysis of the reactions of the participants. Within the space limitations of an MEJ insert, it is clearly impossible to give more than the gist, highlights and prevailing themes of the two sessions, which generated twenty-four formal papers (ranging in length from four to eighty-four pages) and twenty-four responses, plus discussions among the panelists and other participants and various summary statements. Nevertheless, the author has accomplished her task with exceptional skill, capsulizing the climate, content, and implications of what is already being viewed as a landmark symposium. (p. S-3)
