This series provides an occupationally oriented overview for employment and career counselors, as well as student and other interested readers. It contains detailed descriptions of current occupations, many at the entry level where a significant proportion of new hiring occurs; educational and training requirements; personal characteristics helpful for successful performance on the job; and materials on opportunities for employment and promotion. Growing public use of museums, zoos and similar institutions has created a need for information about jobs in this field. (Foreword, p. v).

It contains detailed descriptions of current occupations, many at the entry level where a significant proportion of new hiring occurs; educational and training requirements; personal characteristics helpful for successful performance on the job; and materials on opportunities for employment and promotion. Much of the information included is based on responses to two museum surveys, sent to representative institutions in the museum field, selected on the basis of specialization, size and location. (p. vi).
