Abstract:

Building Creative Assets is a direct response to the materials and proceedings from the 1998 meeting of the Americans for the Arts National Policy Board. At this meeting, leaders from the philanthrophic, entertainment, and nonprofit arts sectors convened to help engage the entertainment and nonprofit arts industries in working together more effectively. The ultimate objective was to lay the groundwork for a strong, financially secure future for the arts in America.

Two key issues emerged:

  1. Mission and identity.
  2. Dollars and dialogue.

The author highlights issues and identifies underlying concerns raised by the discussion. It also provides a set of guiding principles and next steps for a continuing dialogue and to meet challenges and issues in developing successful cross-sector relationships.
