Abstract:

Although this bibliography was originally devised for use of students in the program leading to the Master of Business Administration in the Arts at State University of New York at Binghamton, we believe it will prove useful to students elsewhere and to arts administrators already in the field.

The notations reflect the orientation of this program: that materials on sociological, historical and philosophical content are as essential for background as guidebooks on techniques and the application of skills. For example, we have included such subjects as commentaries on artistic creativity and interpretation, on criticism, and on the historical place of the arts in society. The listings on law, financial management, education, etc are grouped according to subject matter. We have not included articles within periodicals, as other bibliographies have already published such entries.

In this currently exploding field of interest, this list is by no means exhaustive but we have tried to include pertinent works appearing up to the time of publication. The headings are designed to facilitate reference; in many cases we have consciously cross-listed works so that they will appear in contexts most useful to the researcher. (p. i)
