Abstract:

The new, updated handbook, with selective material drawn from the 79 issues of Arts Management published between February 1962 and February 1973 is a carefully organized compendium of practical information. A new section included in this revised edition focuses on publications of direct interest to the arts administrator. Following chapter ten, for example, there is a series of articles about books and reports published between 1969 nd 1973 which may be useful as an annotated bibliography. Also included is the popular Newsletter feature, Checklist, which carries year by year listings of relevant newspaper and magazine articles published between 1969 and 1973.

The handbook is shaped to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow's cultural administrators, who will find within it, precedents and ideas to help them resolve the chronic problems inherent in managing an arts organization - how to raise funds, how to promote programs, how to attract audiences, or how to organize a board of directors. To facilitate its use, material has been grouped into five basic sections, each containing one or more related chapters. For maximum readability and pragmatic value, illustrative case histories often immediately follow theoretical or how to articles on the same subject. (p. 3)
