Summary:

During the period 1976-78 there will have appeared, in print and manuscript form, an extraordinary array of documents bearing on aspects of the arts in American education - a field which, only a decade or so ago, was little more than a glimmer in the professional educator's eye. Nine of these more recent publications are under consideration in this survey. Four are reports and position papers resulting from deliberations by national panels or commissions; two are the outcomes of national conferences; and three report on, or otherwise deal with, arts education programs (past and present) supported by two Federal agencies: the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and the National Endowment for the Arts.
