Summary:

Abstract:

This project exemplifies an alliance of federal and state agencies, of public and private sectors, and of professionals in arts and education in a joint venture demonstrating cooperation, collaboration, and mutual support toward shared goals that is almost too good to be true. It was in fact a reality, however, when professional expertise was joined by public support to demonstrate how artists and educators can share in a common agenda for personal and professional development. Each group, drawing from the experience to enhance already existing skills, was able to nurture their understanding, competencies and aspirations.

Section I of this report includes:

  1. A description of the over-all goals of the Institute and the statements of selected artists by Linda Constant Buki, Project Director.

  2. A description of the conference setting and conditions relating to the curricular design, selection of artists, length of the Institute and living conditions by Harlan Hoffa, Professor of Art Education at Pennsylvania State University.

  3. An assessment of attitudinal changes in the conference participants as specified in the conference goals by Charles M. Dorn, Professor of Art and Design, Purdue University.

Section II includes:

  1. A summarization of experiences and how these contributed to her development as an art educator, Sheila Finkelstein.

  2. Evaluative statements by Robbie Schlosser and Ann Sherman.

Mr. Schlosser and Ms. Sherman participated in five of the ten days devoted to the dance, creative dramatics, theatre, clay, and architectural programs. As participating evaluators, they individually chose the workshop they wished to participate in and evaluate. (p. 6, 9)
