Artists' Unions: A Comparison of the 1930's and the 1970's

Author: Dubin, Steven C.

Publication Year: 1978

Media Type: Report

Summary:

Similar structural conditions contributed to the unemployment of large numbers of artists in both the 1930's and 1970's and have been responded with the mounting of large-scale federally funded programs of support. Most notable of these programs were the WPA projects in the 1930's, and the current CETA sponsporship of the arts. However, dissimilar cultural conditions in these two periods have led to markedly different responses on the part of artists themselves.
