OVERVIEW

A Subtlety by Kara Walker is a sculpture of a female Sphinx made of sugar inside Brooklyn's former Domino Sugar Factory. The project, also known as the Marvelous Sugar Baby, is an indictment of slavery and unfair work practices related to the sugar trade and also featured sculptures of Black children laboring that were made of molasses and slowly melted over the course of the installation.
