With the overwhelmingly positive audience response during our first healing concert at the Radgowski Correctional Institution in May 2016, PROJECT: MUSIC HEALS US immediately expanded its programming through the 2016-2017 season to include an additional "spin-off" prison residency beyond the original five concert weekends throughout the year. This expansion included three separate prison residencies in which the Solera Quartet performed in State and Federal prisons throughout New York, Connecticut, and California.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Since March 2020, COVID-19 has forced the suspension of all of our in-person prison programs. While we are excitedly anticipating the re-establishment of our in-person institutional partnerships in the coming season, we will be busily using this year to build a 20-part digital college-accredited prison course (MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE: DIGITAL PRISON COURSE) through which we hope to eventually expand PMHU’s reach into correctional facilities across the country. Learning from the success of our Vital Sounds Initiative: Bedside Concerts Program, and its far-reaching effects, we are developing the content of MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE based on the in-person programming we have so loved bringing into correctional facilities for the past six years (see below for a complete list!). MUSIC FOR THE FUTURE will be piloted in Fall 2022.
