OVERVIEW

The Heidelberg Project was created in 1986 by Tyree Guyton and his grandfather in Detroit's East side. He turned dilapidated buildings and vacant lots into works of art making an area where people were once afraid to walk a source of pride in the community.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

PROJECT EVALUATION

The project aims to serve as an economic catalyst in a depressed community, open the doors of creativity offering new opportunities and hope to residents, and introduce the art of re-purpose and recycling in an under-served community. On GuideStar they reported 195,708 total audience members for the year 2017, 9 classes in the K-12 sector in 2018, 76 guided tours from 2016-2018, 170 volunteers 2018-2018, and 178 students enrolled in 2018.
