OVERVIEW

Students in the 2017 iteration of the Community Engagement in Science Through Art program created a kinetic sculpture is comprised of three individual pieces, each about 12 feet tall, that each rotates on its own axis.  When the sculpture is viewed from the front and all three pieces are aligned, the sculpture appears to have the symmetry of the D4h space group. Space groups are a way to describe the symmetry of molecular structures.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Community Engagement in Science Through Art program brings students from all disciplines together to educate and engage the community to discuss the beauty of science through art and understanding. The goal is to bring science to the community in a format that is fun, interesting, educational and beautiful.
