OVERVIEW

An increase in the refugee population in Buffalo, NY led to a resettlement program in the Grant Street neighborhood. Young Audiences of Western New York created the project to build community through arts residencies in public schools, which resulted in a large mural highlighting the town's culture.

PROJECT EVALUATION

The project has become an iconic symbol of the diverse array of cultures that exist in the Grant Street area. It serves as a visual representation of the people in the community and promotes solidarity. Since the unveiling of the mural, Grant Street has become known as the city's "Global Village". News outlets and media have featured the mural resulting in increased visibility in the town. Business owners in the vicinity of the mural have noticed a large increase in foot traffic resulting in an increase of sales enhancing the vitality of the community's economy. The Youth Audiences of Western New York aim to launch youth development programs in the Grant Street area in the future.
